Leonardo Turkish distribution deal expanded

Kaan Air and Leonardo-Finmeccanica have expanded their agreement covering the distribution of the 2.8-7-tonne model range of helicopters in Turkey, it was announced on 24 May. The models covered by the agreement currently include the AW119 Koala utility helicopter, AW139 intermediate twin-engine helicopter, and GrandNew light twin-engine helicopter. This will now be extended to see the new-generation AW189 8.3/8.6-tonne and AW169 4.6-tonne helicopters distributed by Kaan Air in Turkey.

HeliRussia 2016: Ansat commercial deliveries imminent

The first delivery of the 3.6 tonne Ansat light twin for commercial operations will take place this June or July, to the Moscow-based RVS company. The helicopter operator is set to take a central role in the entry-into-service effort of the new Russian twin helicopter produced at Kazan Helicopters.

Sultan of Johor upgrades transport

The Sultan of Johor in Malaysia is refurbishing his personal air transport fleet, two Sikorsky S-76B helicopters. The company to win this contract, valued at US$8 million, is Heli-One of Canada, who announced the news on 17 May.

ECA demonstrates IT180 UAV

ECA Group has disclosed details of a demonstration held in late April of its IT180 tethered unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for military and civilian applications. The demonstration saw representatives of several major military and security organisations from France and abroad in attendance, according to the company. The presentation saw ECA Group demonstrate its Unmanned Aerial Watchtower (UAW) for the first time.

Collaboration to fast-track safety system

International helicopter association HeliOffshore is advancing safety measures to ensure that flying offshore helicopter missions is 'at least as safe as flying on the average global commercial airline’. The organisation is fast-tracking the introduction of enhanced terrain awareness and warning systems (HTAWS) across the offshore fleet and, with membership approval, is authorising a collaborative safety review.

Sweden police begins Bell 429 operations

The Swedish National Police has received and begun operating seven Bell 429 twin-engine light helicopters, Bell Helicopter announced on 18 May. The fleet has been entered into service for search and rescue, mountain rescue and law enforcement missions across Sweden.
