HeliRussia 2016: Ka-62 undergoes initial testing

The Kamov Ka-62 is undergoing its so-called entry-into the testing operation programme, which has to be completed before kick-starting the developmental testing effort. The long-delayed maiden flight in hover of the first prototype, OP-1, was made on 28 April 2016 at the AAC Progress plant in Arsenyev, in Russia’s Far East region.

Sichuan Xiangyun buys Bell 407GXP

China-based Sichuan Xiangyun General Aviation Company has purchased a Bell 407GXP single-engine, civil utility helicopter from Bell Helicopter. The company announced the deal on 25 May. The Bell 407GXP will be customised for helicopter tours and VIP transportation before delivery to the customer.

Monacair receives final H130

Airbus Helicopters has delivered the sixth and final H130 helicopter to the charter helicopter airline Monacair based at Monaco Heliport, the company announced on 25 May. The contract for six H130s was signed in September 2015. The final unit, like the other five before it, will operate Monacair's regular scheduled flight service between Nice International airport and the Monaco Heliport.

Safran opens new helicopter support centre in Singapore

Safran Helicopter Engines has officially opened a new headquarters and MRO centre in Singapore, with increased capacity to handle the growing helicopter operations in Southeast Asia. The new centre, located in Singapore’s Seletar Aerospace Park, is qualified for three Safran turboshaft ranges: the Arrius, Arriel, and Makila.

Pakistan orders AW139s for search and rescue

Pakistan has ordered an undisclosed number of AgustaWestland AW139 intermediate twin-engined helicopters configured for search and rescue missions. Deliveries are due to start in 2017, says parent company Leonardo-Finmeccanica, with the deal part of a fleet renewal programme “spread over several batches”, it adds. Signed in Islamabad, the contract also covers its provision of personnel training and logistics support.

Finmeccanica, NTU to advance helicopter design

Leonardo-Finmeccanica and Singapore's Nanyang Technological University (NTU) have signed an agreement to start a research collaboration on innovative, integrated composites, helicopter aerodynamics and helicopter structure, the former announced on 23 May. The agreement, signed in Rome, follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed in Singapore in February 2016. It established a partnership for aerospace technological advancement, and aims to enhance the position of Leonardo-Finmeccanica in research capabilities and advanced helicopter technologies.
